Winter Glitch...
Just Now...
....lost...
So today I am happy to look at these images and pretend that our spaces are prepared for my Parents arrival shortly, and there are no weeds in the garden, and that there is not much to do but make gingerbread men...real edible ones, not clay!...and eat fruit mince pies and dance around to Bing Crosby while decking our halls etc.
Never mind, the rush will be done with soon and all these things will be waiting - still!
Hope you are having a lovely day

Weekend Whine...and Giveaway tease!
These images have been in 'the file' for ages and have me wanting to get outside and pretty up our entertaining areas, but it will have to wait a little longer. On another note, yesterday was Halloween as you are all aware. Not a big issue in our home and we don't do anything to celebrate this.
There was something HUGE on Halloween that happens EVERY year that we do celebrate though and this year was even bigger......my Dear Dads 70th Birthday!!!!
My Dad means the world to me and I was sad to not have been with him and my family on the mainland celebrating this and had to be happy with a phone call with him. It was so lovely to hear the rest of the family gathered in the background all enjoying my Dad's special day.
My Dad is such a wonderful Man and if our boys could grow to be half the man he is I would be so proud and happy...love you dearly Dad and cant wait to see you soon!
So, even though I was very busy with the Shop. I did have a lovely weekend.
except for our Wedding shots of course!
Welcome Weekend...
After a very tiring week I plan to do some cocooning this weekend, baking, playing with the boys...family time basically.Beautiful dining spaces to share...

traditional homeI am a fan for themes. It can be as easy as a colour theme. Here, blue and white is the star of this setting and I love the fact that they have chosen the blue and white covers and upholstery to tie in with their china. Even the flowers match beautifully. Couldn't you imagine a gorgeous lazy Sunday Summer lunch here?
country living Do you have an old set of dining chairs that you may be trying to stay clear of at mealtimes? Well, dig out some old pillow cases, fabric, curtains etc that have something interesting on them. It could be the pattern, texture, colour, sentiments or it could be some vintage linen, like here. Take a deep breath, and start cutting. You will be amazed how lovely mismatched chairs can look with some 'new' covers on them.
coastal livingIf your still not convinced, and the thought of cutting up Grannies antique French linen sheet set from her Wedding for your chairs makes you cringe...maybe get some paint out instead. These chairs look wonderful in blue against the white table. It can be as easy as getting some sample pots and a weekend...and they don't all have to match in colour either.
coastal living...or you could just cover the tops! This can be done with pillow cases, so you don't have to sew again!! Just slip them over the tops of the chairs. Here they have been accessorised with colourful buttons and pick up other colours in the rooms.
bh&gMaybe you don't even have a dining area. Any small area can be made as an eating space and here it is outside on a porch. Two chairs and a small patio table is all you need (obviously if there are more of you, you'll have to improvise). I love the French poster and jug of daisies to make it more dining room like....how could you not want to share your day over dinner with loved ones here?

via velvet & linen (I think)I am loving this porch with its white and fresh hits of navy blue and seeing I am over being indoors, my thoughts have turned to what need to be done outside once the warmer days arrive.
Tim Irving..which is why today's pick from Tim's range in "The Yellow Jersey". Not only because I am on a serious health kick (2 dress sizes, 8kgs and 8.5" of my waist so far), and would like to get back on the bike in the sun, but Mic (Husband) was a serious cyclist for a long time and the recent Le Tour de France has reignited a fire in him to get peddling again...so this is my pick today.
Don't forget to leave a comment as tomorrow night the winner will be drawn to win 2 of Tim's beautiful prints!!!

Next Time...
...we move any where, I imagine it to look like this! A beautiful white home, called 'The Beach House', with lush green gardens and water near by. I would have to be near the country side too, I would miss it too much.
A beautiful Summer porch for lounging on after a tiring day. Don't get me wrong, while ever my backside points to the ground I won't want to move from our current home, but the thought is there.
I have trawled through these photos a dozen times and thought of what I would do to make it ours.
I love this room, but it is a little too white...I know!!! how could I say that??
As beautiful as this space is, art work would have to go up, wicker roman blind on the window, and white and cream Ironstone on the shelves. A little topiary Rosemary tree would be cute beside the window for fresh tasting Sunday Roasts...mmmm! Oh, and a tall cylindrical vase to act as a fish bowl for two black moor fish with big white pebbles in the bottom and a ferny plant inside.
Oh to rest in this room...heaven. Candles is probably all I would add here.
The more I look at this home, I am pretty sure I seen it in an Australian magazine a few years ago, yep...tore it out and it is in my file. I am stealing this idea for our Bathroom...the silver letters, maybe for a wall.
The backyard is bliss.
and my office/workroom would go in here! Maybe I would open my shop in there...how adorable....anyway, back to reality - painting!Provence in New Zealand
Our friends across the ocean in NZ really do live a beautiful life. After seeing Anna Spiro's photos of her recent trip there, and the constant eye candy that is in one of my favourite magazines NZ House & Gardens, I am wanting to go there for a holiday more and more. This month I was taken in by this beautiful home from 1916, that has been lovingly restored by Aussie couple Hans and Helen van der Muelen and there Interior Designer Daughter, Anna.
Each photo of the house is gorgeous. Like this little white cabana with its aqua pool.
They even give you a peek inside the cabana. That colour on the walls is basically the linen shade I want for our living room (if anyone knows what it is, please email me).Couldn't you just imagine lounging around here in the Summer months, making Lunch dwindle into Dinner?
The couples' Daughter, Anna, moved to NZ from Sydney for 9 months to Project Manage the makeover. What a lovely job she has done.
Lots of milky whites, linen, Travertine floors and neutral shades make for one little piece of Heaven....off to read the rest.Whiteport, New England Style
This little hint of a dining room screams 'casual chic', and New England. Pale floors, loads of white and natural wood and washable cotton everywhere. Don't you just want to move in? Me to!
This is the porch of Jennifer's home. Not only is she super stylish, she is a bargain hunter...like me. This setting she bought off Ebay for a small price, re covered in white and voila! Stylish outdoor setting.
Her bathroom is just gorgeous and has been in my head recently while I ponder our bathroom reno. White with black accents and white washed wood...how can you go wrong?
This cushion would look lovely on a plump white sofa over looking the ocean. It is available from Whiteport. I want some. My Sister will too!!
Not only is the store beautiful, Jennifer's blog is lovely too. She has a liking for a Designer I admire, Vincent Wolf.
I can just imagine all of these in a New England style home, and with a fire place that is simply beautiful, you could stay all year round.
The only thing that is missing from the photo above is a vintage look wicker basket full of kindling, like these from Shabby Homestyles...
...and a bowl full of these gorgeous little white pebbles from Mondo Cherry. They remind me of the ones from Somethings Gotta Give...but cuter.
I don't think it would be a New England home without a flag and a lighthouse. I love the fact that the light house is white and not that over done red stripe kind.
..and would all these things make sense if there wasn't somewhere to kick off your sandy shoes and plonk down for an evening by candle light, the sound of waves and the ocean breeze sending you to sleep while someone else done the cooking...absolutely not!Ness xx

My Virtual Beach House...

As you enter, you would be welcomed by a small feature table with a simple, but beautiful mirror over it, to check your beach hair for foreign objects! Simple black and white photos of Summers past would adorn the wall. Definitely white washed floors for carefree living throughout.
Come Summer time, we would welcome it in by throwing the doors open, putting away the quilts and pulling out aquas, faded blues and greens and picking the wild flowers from our field which has come to life.
An all white kitchen that has some interesting features will be a pleasure to cook in. Bin pull handles on the drawers and small knobs for the doors in a brushed aluminium, loads of wicker baskets, wicker blinds and hints of fresh blue and white china here and there.
A wonderfully fresh beaded board bathroom, with either reclaimed flagstone flooring or lime washed wood would be perfect for sandy feet to be cleaned. Loads of wicker and simple finishes everywhere else remind you of where you are.
Still, I can't go past a white claw foot to soak a long days swimming away.
My perfect outdoor room. Imagine having carefree Bar-b-ques and a glass of wine out here? I would take out the can lights (down lights) and just have hurricane lamps, candles and a white washed chandelier in this space.images - 1.unknown, 2.Atlanta Bartlett, 3.Janie Hirsch, 4.BH&G, 5.Oliveaux, 6.Notebook, 7.BH&G, 8.All Things Blue, 9.Pottery Barn, 10.Ness Lockyer, 11.Porchlight Interiors (I think), 12.
