Lockdown...

Hey There!

Is this the most beautiful Armoire you have seen? I spotted it at the always inspiring Lonny mag, which is a good thing I am inspired because tomorrow I plan on spending the whole day on lock down in there, music on, head down sewing.

The basket of vintage linens is calling again and now that all of my orders are caught up on I can sew without a worry, which is when I usually create the best sellers! =0)
And, I can also make up some more Christmas stockings with my stash of red fabrics.

By the way, I have switched rooms (again) and am making my office in our other living room as it is not being used...well, that and the fact that the room is huge, there are white floorboards in there, fireplace, and most of my sewing things as well. I know, when will I settle on a room?! Maybe if we get a caravan or convert our outdoor room that might happen - and that's a whole other post ;0)

I do plan on having copious amounts of coffee and a sit in my adorable white slip covered wing back chair in between all this too

...'cause now my favourite chair is right next to my sewing machine.

Does it get any better?
BTW- stop by and say Hi to Ginger, who has just started a brand new blog. Ginger has been so kind to write a lovely post about my home and even interviewed me. This blog is going to be all about white...my fave!
have a great weekend all =0)

Searching, still...

Still on the lookout for a cupboard/armoire for the Miners Cottage. I did however get another old chair, a mirror and an awesome old cutting board today for $15!
I love the old mismatched chairs in this shot and I plan to paint the ones I am getting for the cottage all white so they will fit together around a small dining table which is yet to be found. I have two chairs so far and the search continues.
As for my 'over it' dilemma. I will be taking it all out of the decorations out of the room for a few days and seeing what happens from there. Whatever I don't put back will be sold...and some paint for the sideboard is in order. I thank you all for your comments and emails with this. Glad to know I am not the only one who is feeling this way right now.
Have a great weekend,

C&R Book Review and a recipe...

Firstly I wanted to say thank you all for your lovely comments and emails about our $5 sideboard. It was very nice of you all.
Next I wanted to tell you about this as I cant contain it any longer.
I have been asked to do a book review for Christina Strutt's amazing new book...
The photo at the top of the post is a sneak peek at the book...it looks amazing and I am now awaiting my hard copy in the mail. Every day I have been checking the mailbox in anticipation of this book. I have Christina's other books and they are just beautiful. If you don't know who Christina is or have never seen any of the Cabbages and Roses fabrics, you are in for a treat. They are all based on vintage prints and have a faded quality to them which is so pretty. Christina's outdoor area which looks like a huge canvas tent has been in my favourites file forever and the interior of this space is superb.
While I wait on the postie to deliver this gem I have been looking through the Cabbages & Roses website, and found these...

This French grey set of drawers is circa 1870 and is just perfect. There are so many beautiful pieces on the C&R website and if I was able to, I would have them all!

Especially this stunning Armoire which is circa 1890. It looks wonderful filled with Christina's fabrics which are also on the site.
But, I would be happy with one of her deckchairs to remind me of Summer. As soon as I have the book I will be sure to give it a thorough going over and will tell you all about it...I cant wait!

After yesterdays post I have had lots of emails about the recipe for these Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffins I made, so here it is....I never put all of the following in, especially the butter and sugar, I always use less and put loads more raspberries and white choc in instead =0)

170gms (about 1/2 cup) of Caster Sugar
2 eggs
200gms Butter
2 cups of sifted self raising flour
80 mls of milk
1/2 cup of Raspberries
1/4 cup of white chocolate chips
Method
-----------
1. Whisk eggs and sugar until thick
2.Add butter, flour and milk
3. add raspberries and chocolate
4. Stir gently until just combined
5. Spoon into muffin trays and press extra choc and raspberries into top.
6. Bake in moderate oven (about 180 C) for about 30 minutes or until golden.
Easy! Enjoy.

Cupboard Dilemma!

Ever since we moved into our home over 6 years ago, I have been dying to paint our Kitchen cupboards all white. When we began to renovate our 133 year old home the kitchen started off with open shelves either side of our window...it didn't work with the space, made it heavy and they had to go. Now I see photos and think "I wouldn't mind having some place to display my collection of white ceramics and ironware", but I don't want open shelves. I have been thinking for a while now that when the cupboards get painted (sooner than later) I would like to change one of our double pantry cupboards into a wire fronted display piece and have the other one in chalkboard paint...but now I have added our little chalkboard on the side of the pantry, I think that an all blackboard pantry would be too dark....sigh!

So, now I have become obsessed with cupboards and how I can pretty our Kitchen doors up with out spending a bomb doing it...this I can do!
I have thought that maybe I could tear off 2 of the doors and have some shelves exposed and maybe a gorgeous skirt (like Brooke has done here in her Chanel Islands home)...but that would mean a major configuration of the other pantry which is attached and lots of $$$ - not going to work.
..maybe we should rip that side out and have a freestanding unit in its place - no, then it would mean re plastering the wall and we would still have to re configure the other pantry...argh!

...bite the bullet and take off all the doors and have some wonderful colour splashed onto the back of the cupboard to highlight my collection? What do I do with ugly tins of food?
I would just love to have a huge Armoire that I could fill with beauty, open when I felt like it, shut if it was a little messy and be done, but no...an old house is never going to play your way!
So, I am back to the idea of painting the cupboards all white, maybe cutting some panels out of two of the doors, filling with mesh (so you can see the collection) and keeping the other two doors intact to hide everyday food items and dressing the doors with some nickle bin pull handles on the drawers and nickle knobs on the doors.
How much can I pull this off for? I am going to do the math and try to shock you when it is done...do you think I can do it on a shoestring? Any tips??

Cocooning Decorexic...(GIVEAWAY WEEK)

...apparently I have it!
I have just finished reading an article with the latest catch phrases for we, that love beautiful homes. Decorexia, is basically someone with an unhealthy obsession with how a home looks! Homedulgence, is dressing up for dinner and indulging in beautiful things at home..and finally Drift Shopping, which is when you buy things just for the fact that they are there..not me!
With the global crisis thing happening, it seems we are 'cocooning' and indulging in the simple things in life and going back to the simple beauty that surrounds us everyday. Cutting flowers and food from the garden and making do, or making better what you already have seems to be the new decorating wave, if you call it new. I am going to show you some photos of what I think is cocooning it...
Now, most of us already lived by this, especially if you have a classic look in your home and don't follow the latest decorating trends...Modern Rustic, some like to call it. Even the cleaning cupboards in every ones homes are getting a serious re-think, and we are paring back to what is natural, cheap and effective.

Interior finishes are even going through the a la natural phase. Eco friendly paint that doesn't smell is becoming a big seller, as well as natural pigment paints and finishes that mimic lime washes and stone (not that really faux one) and bringing back a traditional take on interiors. We are seeing a huge move towards natural palettes and materials...I love it!

Mixing traditional finishes, modern and vintage finds is something that has been happening for an age, but it seems, finally the rest of them are getting it. This Kitchen is beautiful. Imagine whipping up a Sunday roast, with veggies and herbs picked from your garden in here? Me too!

The look 'Modern Rustic', is a loose term and can be whatever you want really, but basically it is collected over time, not the newest thing to have (except grain sacks for me..hehe), not hurried and has a feel that someone totally loves this space, it is lived in and has blemishes here and there, and is not prissy perfect. Then there is also 'Elegant Rustic'!!! I think I am a mixture of the two...with some French and Scandinavian and Australian chucked in for flavour.
Does this all make sense?
I would love to here what style you think you are.
Don't forget about my Giveaway being drawn on Friday...leave a comment to enter!

Beauty Found...

Look what I found! This glorious site full to the brim with stunning French pieces to make anyone drool. The Louis salon settee at the top is something I WILL have one day...totally fallen in love with this piece. I only got to view the first 3 pages and could have spent hours on there. So for some serious eye candy, click HERE.
BTW- Thank you to all who left lovely comments about my Friend who passed. I really appreciated them all. I spent the weekend doing some serious sewing, made home made pizzas and generally had a homebody weekend and feel a lot better for it. Thanks!

Simply Beautiful....

I have just stumbled upon this beautiful online store, Biskopsgarden, while visiting some of my favourite blogs last night and was blown away by the gorgeous photos, which were taken by Mari Erikson, and had to share...
This Armoire is lovely in blue, and I adore the little dressmakers form...too cute!
There is even a blog to go with the store, which is also full of lovely images. i didn't have the translator on...didn't need to. Beauty talks without words. The Tolix A Chairs in white are beautiful with this setting....love!

No words needed!

I would walk across a desert with freshly amputated legs to get one of these beauties! The lamp I mean!!

Two things I love...wicker basket and mattress ticking in a box cushion...heaven!
To see more of this beauty, and loads of seemingly mundane objects like tea cups and the like, turned into stunning displays with a general theme of white..go HERE!
To all of us Aussie's, have a great long weekend
and Australia Day. I will be painting nearly an acre of white Picket Fence!!!!!! :0

Bedroom Wish List...

This is our Bedroom at the moment. It is not ugly, I quite like it. It started off in a terrible way (re: prostitute red carpets and horrible purple/red paint).
One thing I am not keen on is the table on this side of the bed, a temporary measure, until I find something to put there. I have an old Singer sewing base with a wooden top on my side. Poor Mic has to have this. I don't mind the taps either. They will go, but they remind us of the house's past as the Doctors house. This was actually the Kitchen!

BHG
We have just put in our Wicker Roman blinds with warm white side curtains, which we love.
I plan to have some black and white prints like these to put in some of our old frames. That chest is beautiful. We have the white floors already.

James Michael Howard, via ABT
An Armoire like this would be nice. Not the mirrored ones though. Ever since I seen 'The Ring', I can't look into a mirror if it is dark!!! weird I know! It is strange what Pregnancy will do to you.
The jugs and chaise would be nice too.

Etsy.com
Some pattern in the form of cushions, especially this blue I think would go with the hints of blue in our Euro pillow covers.

You can see them here. I bought these when we were not long Married and they have kept their appeal all these years. They are my favourite, apparently Vietnamese Linen...whatever that means! I will make more of my putty linen button cushions too.

Modern Country
I don't know how well white Hydrangeas would go growing inside. Maybe I will just do the cut flower form.

I love this photo. White floors, loads of white linen and hints of blue..bliss.

Min Lilla Veranda
Little hints of vintage always go down well in a bedroom. I adore this lamp shade and could imagine this as table lamps beside our bed. The urn is a nice touch.

Alicia Bock
I am definitely getting a print of this. Big white mat board in a slim black frame is all it needs.

French Dressing
This one won't happen in the near future, but I have always wanted a Louis Chair or something just as ornate with putty coloured linen on the seat.
As soon as I have got our room into shape I will show you some photos. This is to remind me of what I truly want.

Peep-o!

image - Gustavian Room
What a wonderful way to hide all of the ugly that goes with anything to do with Computers.
If any of you are like me at present, flat out and in a see of swatches, magazines etc, you will know what I mean. I have envisioned turning my thrift store cupboard into something like this, but...maybe I will just get a laptop!

Bountiful Beauty

I have been consumed of late, trying to find pieces to make our living area look warm
I have know of her skills for many years, but never delved into
site, until today. I must have saved every image. This one in particular grabbed my attention.
I adore these pillows. All of her beds are stunning.
I have seen most of the images from this home, but never realised it
belongs to Whoopi Goldberg. I love the chandelier in the WC!

This Armoire of Whoopi's is a gem.

...and her bedroom is just heavenly.
I am going to try something like this beside our bed.
I have a console table, that needs a makeover, and a mirror in there
would bounce so much light about. You are so lucky Whoopi.

I also found this photo of Lisa Rinna's baby shower that Sue
had worked her magic on. Now, this is my idea of an entertaining area!!
White market umbrellas and loads of wicker and white linen, needlepoint pillows
...and roses and Hydrangeas. I realise now that my love for the shabby has never gone away,
it just matured a little. Maybe I could mix some of my favourite pieces instead of being so worried about what everyone else will think.
Anyhow, a visit to this site is a must for loads of inspiration.

Wet French Knickers!!!

...that's what nearly happened when I seen this Home owned by the fantastic Gaynor Groome, who owns the even more fabulous 'Shades of Pale' in Sydney.

I have so many great ideas from this space for our impending reno. I am loving the Spanish legs on this table and those cute little wreaths. Just divine. I bet there will be some merry clanging of glasses in here over the festive season.

Those pewter-finish cast iron stools came from a French bar...I need to find one Pronto! The colour of the cabinets looks so nice against Gaynors custom mixed wall colour..so fresh and beautiful. Tracey from Porchlight Interiors has a thing at the moment for black Kitchens...I wonder if she peed too!!

A fabulous use for an old garden urn. Gaynor can turn anything into a lamp, and has done so here with this French candlestick.

There are those Spanish legs again. I love her sense of style...not over styled or forced, just naturally beautiful...and she is not formally trained either.

This room is stunning and the bed is a star player. The fan on the sideboard is a piece of art in its self.

I didn't even notice the great lamp that Gaynor made from a French Fire dog. The first thing I saw was the suitcase (I have a thing at the moment)...tut tut!!

Christie's Ad or what?

Ahh! Belgian Linen sofa, crystal drop Chandelier and a fabulous Armoire just make any room don't you think? I could be inspired in here for days.

Another of Gaynor's lamps, is this one made from a wicker wrapped Demijohn. I love this sideboard and blogged about the exact piece in one of my first posts...what is wrong with Santa these days??

You are welcomed to Gaynor's' home by this fabulous display tressel table which is topped by an old elm warehouse door. The wicker baskets hold their wine. The candlesticks are made from Victorian cotton reels. Love the lamp base.

This magnificent basket once carried grapes in a vineyard at harvest.
I have been SO inspired by this home, that I am saving all of these pictures to hang on my inspiration board so I can see light at the end of our dusty reno tunnel. I hope this will see me through and keep me on the path of a dream.
Have a fantastic weekend, Ness xx
