White Subway Tiles...

Love this bathroom.
I love that it is not a big square/rectangle and that the toilet is down the end.
The sink is amazing and who doesn't like subway tile right?

unknown
Subway tile is so clean looking and lends so well to wicker, wood, porcelain and of course goes so well with the Hexagon floor tiles they are usually paired with.

Here are the lovely floor tiles. Little Hexagons in a bone white.
I must say though, I would have to have white grout in mine...the subway tile too.
That's just me though =0)

See, again, white subway tile and Hexagonal floor tiles...with a claw foot
=perfection!
You may be wondering where I am going with this post.
We have some issues going on in our Bathroom and we are thinking of what we need to do to fix the problem and make the bathroom ow we would like.
This is not easy let me tell you.
The room is H U G E!
me
This is how you last seen it when it got it's mini 'free' makeover.

me
You may remember when I had to paint the orangey lining boards behind our 101 year old Claw Foot bath.

me
This was it when I finished.
This space has always annoyed me, never being what I imagine.
We have plans...well had.
Now they have to be sorted.
Anyone in Northern Tassie know of a Builder and Plumber???
I am sure to keep you posted on this on going pain in my side ;0)

Sunny Reminder...

image-me

A nice sunny image from our home I found while deleting some old files.
It is so, so windy, wet and cold here.
I came home to find the Trampoline on the fence and our clothesline blown over and had to go out in the torrential downpour to try and get the Trampoline off the fence and bend the line back into shape!
Not a nice day at all folks.
On another note, the 2011 Christmas range is in full swing here =0)

Boys' Room...

It's been busy here in our house.
Our boys have been on 2 weeks holidays, we have a 7th Birthday party for Declan here on Sunday, there's some painting going on (more on that soon) and I am trying to get the boys' 'new' room finished.
The above image is our youngest child, Mason's beloved 'Bear'. He has had this since he was a week and a half old and it is his world...seen better days, but he loves it.
Anyway....

Our little Men started in this room a few months back
(here they are cuddled up watching a movie after making a huge mess in there)
and I decided they needed to be closer to the living area and the fire over our cold Winter
...so, I moved them into our old room.

With the move, I wanted to do something a little more fitting with their likes and ages, so I found an old Spiderman comic and framed them for their walls

They have small groups of 4 above each bed. I have some other pieces, shelves etc to go in here, but was happy to make a start.

They now have their lights closer to them. In the other room they were on the opposite walls.
Declan is our little Artist and thought he would add some of his work to the other wall.
Just something small, but they love it and I thought you might like to see as I have never shown you their room before.

There is lots to happen, finish, start here this week and the weather hasn't been very accommodating for painting....but I'm getting there and will reveal all soon =0)

At least Tess is having an enjoyable time near the fire all curled up!
Stay well friends...and warm!!

What's this?...

...a little something I am working on!
Have a wonderful weekend.
We have a long weekend here
and I have lots to do =0)

Winter Knits....

Hello again!
After another busy week I found some time today to add some warmth to our home.
Remember I mentioned getting the rug out for our living room and 'cocooning' a bit?
As you can see above, I brought out the rug and my white knitted throw and what a difference it made straight away.

The sun was perfect in here today.
It has been really, really cold here as we only have a day of Autumn left.

So, I sat in the sun for a little while and enjoyed a coffee in the sunlight.

While I was sitting, I realised that we needed more cushions!
...and a new couch cover to be made.
The couch cover will have to wait for a few weeks while I tackle some other projects first.

Recently, I had a huge clean out of all our wardrobes and have bags and bags of clothes for the local charity shop.....but I did think, while sitting in that sun, that maybe I could use some of my knitted old jumpers and cardigans to make some covers.
So, I did. The grey one you see here was a cardigan I adored and thought it would make the perfect addition to our Winter cushion collection.
I only had time to whip up one, but I did salvage some other knits from the bags to be turned into covers very soon =0)

While the sun was pouring in our French doors, I thought I would give you a 'peek' of our 'new room'.
This room is ear marked for a paint makeover soon, but for now it is OK.
You will get a better look at it when I am ready to paint. I have some old/new pieces coming for the room that will be also getting makeovers and I am looking forward to that!

One day left until Winter hits. I think I am ready!!

Wishing for....

photo by me in our kitchen
Hey all!
As the weather gets really cold here I have been wandering around our kitchen wanting to change things.
A few things are on the agenda already
*The wicker blinds have come down
*Linen Roman shades will be going up
*Dining chairs will be finished like the table
...but I need MORE!

*beadboard splash back and some shelves for my ironstone

*something grey, glassy and full of gorgeous serving ware

*a recycling station worth showing, not hiding beside the fridge like ours ;0)

and hopefully one day a Belfast sink and stunning taps to go with it...one day.
This gorgeous kitchen has had me wanting since I looked at it some time ago.
I just love it and it has my head filled with ideas.
I have figured out which things are do-able for us right now
*blinds
*chairs
*shelves...if I can convince Mic!
*cupboard with ironstone
*recycling station
What do you think?

It's A Complicated Garden...

G'Day Poppets!
I am in the mood for diggin.
I know, it is Autumn here in Australia and we woke to a serious frost  here in Tasmania and the last thing I should be thinking of is gardening, let alone building a veggie patch!
Not sure what it is, but Autumn always makes me want to garden.
Anywho, I am in full veggie garden want and have been doing a little bit of planning and researching into the way I will shape this little plot.
One things for sure I want it to look nice and reflect the era of our old home.
This picket fence looks great, but wouldn't work for us. I do love it though.

It's Complicated garden

From experience building our last garden, I am sure I will need some gravel or something through the beds that I don't have to mow. That was a nightmare!
Ever since I seen the veggie patch in the movie It's Complicated I was hooked and it started me thinking about rebuilding ours. That was a while ago...not in Autumn ;0)

Raised beds is the way to go here and Brooke's garden is a delight.
The idea of a little spot to sit and ponder the next plantings I like.

One thing is for sure....I will be including some climbing frames, homemade style, and hopefully a cold frame
...but that's another post!
I you have any tips, tricks or ideas I can try for this little garden of ours, I would love to here from you.
Need all the help I can get that's for sure!

Ticked this off my list today....

mari eriksson
Inspired by beautiful storage cupboards the last few weeks had lead me to open our pantry and decide it was time for a clean out.

A few boxes of charity items later and a good clean out with Peppermint oil left me with a clean slate.
(It is Mouse season here in the country and they don't like Peppermint)

Our island and dining table looked like an ironstone sale!

This side of the pantry used to hold cookbooks, candles, Cd's and loads of 'stuff'. It always annoyed me.
Now all of my white serving ware have a nice home.

Ah! Much better.
One day this old 70's pantry will get a paint job on the inside, but I kind of like the wood against the white
...for now.
So, I finally ticked that off my mile long 'to do' list =0)

I hope you all have a safe and happy Holiday break, whatever you may be doing.

Washing Whites

While the Autumn sunshine was pouring in our living room, I photographed some of the new collection for Marley & Lockyer.
It is based around vintage linens, vintage cottons and old fashioned printing techniques.
I love this as it gives each cover a unique look and something real about it, not mass produced at all
just like the good old days.

Even the hand mixed inks aren't perfect =0)

I do love this shot.
As the sunshine started to dim, everything still looked lovely.
Even our white linens and towels.
It is pouring rain right now at 9:22pm and we are toasty by the fire after a glorious day in the sun.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Whirlwind Week...

Wow, what a whirlwind few days I have had.
A little re arranging this little reading nook in the other room as well as being super busy in the lead up to Niche -All Wrapped Up, which is the Designers Market I will be attending this very Friday 1st and 2nd of April!
Today after sitting and sewing all day I had to do something else. It had to be Niche involved.
Ah, tagging all of the items I will be selling on the beautiful handmade, hand cut recycled paper that my gorgeous friend Joelee made for Marley & Lockyer.
I love the shade and spent about an hour putting my badges and earrings onto them.
...so many more items to go and I haven't even started on the cushion covers yet!
I did get to do a dry run on the display...I like it!

but as you know I am active and had to get outside into the glorious Autumn sunshine

so Tess, our Border Collie and I went for a lovely run to pick the boys up from School.
I have had a lovely, busy week so far
...and it's only Monday!
Hope you are too =0)

My Day...

Each day lately is mapped out in my diary with the build up to Niche in 9 days time.
I thought I would show you my day today, just for the sake of it.
My diary holds not only events and appointments, but things which inspire me that I pick up while I am out and about and around our home.
Today it was the lace I forgot I had and some old wooden buttons
...off to 'work' I went...

after that it was straight to work on my new sewing machine.
I must say 1 step buttonhole is amazing =0)

then off to print a small pile of covers

pick up the loads of scraps from the floor
...my office is a mess right now

a small reminder why I do all of this

heat set the new, finished covers.
Then start the after school madness of reading, dinner etc.
A simple day for me today, but
I do love it all.

Weekend List...

The days are getting longer here.
This afternoon while I was getting the washing in I noticed the shadow from our big Kitchen fireplace was hovering over the line.
That means...the cold is nearly here.
Which got me thinking about what to do this weekend.
*Place more candles about the house.

*Bake more cookies and slices for the week ahead.
*More cushions with grey tones will be coming out.
(I can never have enough!)
*All of our cable knit throws will be out too.
*Lets not forget another round of tags will be getting cured.

*and 77 more of these babies will be getting made.

*and a sleep in before any of this happens ;0)
Lets hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
