Bunkin' Down...

Hi Everyone!

You may know already that we have to little boys who are fast growing up. One is 6 and the other is just about to turn 4. In their wisdom they have decided a little while ago that they wanted to share a room together...how sweet.

They both had plenty of room in their own bedrooms, but wanted to be together and they chose Declan's room with the french door, afternoon sunlight and right next to our room.

I was happy with their choice.

This room is very big, so there is loads of room for all of the 'stuff' that they have, but it got me thinking of built in bunks like these above. Love them. So many amazing things can be done with them...let's look.

Now, these aren't the traditional bunks we all think of but it is a great use of space isn't it?

I could imagine them in a family holiday home where you could have a few siblings and their families all in the cottage together....and the storage under would be great.
The idea of the boys room being all white with punches of blue and red, although done to the death really appeals to me...and to them!

That colour combo can be done so many ways!

This room is divine and I often think of a friend of mine who has 4 boys and 1 girl and a 3 bedroom home. This built in bunk system would work so well in her situation and there would still be plenty of room to play and do homework etc.
Having 2 little girls would have me looking for something like this. I would never come out if I had of had bunks like these as a child. My Sister and I did have bunks and we used to put up sheets and bring Mum's potted plants inside and turn them into 'units'. We would dress them just like a home with pillow sofas, curtains - the lot! I remember that so fondly...and the fact my elder Sister always had the 'unit' with the natural sunlight!!

Everything in this room is amazing and although the bunks aren't built in, they still look so great against that stripe wall. Talking Mic around to something like this would be another story though.

Ok, when I found this a million smiles rushed through me. I could have something like this in my office-now-come-guestroom. I think the drum shade and comfy sofa sold the whole scheme to me...either way it is wonderful, and I am sure Mum and Dad would be happy being in here when they come and stay.

Now as much as I love white and neutrals, I do believe that children should have colour in their lives and this room is a perfect example. A white base and tonal coloured 'cabins'.
What a great solution for everyone.
I don't have any plans just yet to have some built in bunks installed, but the boys room does need a face lift. It is still the same colour from when I prepared it for Declan's arrival...about 6 and a half years ago!!

Wonderful White Wonders

Living in a hot Christmas climate always makes me think of the winter white palette that the north of the world gets to play with at this time of year, and this picture above is a gorgeous reminder of how wonderfully whites and creams work with the festive touches that only this time of year can provide. But, even away from the season you all know that I am totally devoted to the warms white and cream family and these next images, although not Christmas related, show who wonderful they really are at any time of year.

White linen covers on sofa's and chairs is always a winner in my book, and a staple to any decorating scheme, along with blue and white china it is an enviable duo. Not to ever forget the tactile and textural wicker - always a friend of these two!

Creamy white kitchen units paired with nickle is another winner, as teamed up here by one of my favourite designers, Sarah Richardson.

Country Living
Now, lets not forget the vintage and antique elements to really set off a white scheme. I have always loved blue mixed in with white and these ticking cushions are a wonderful pairing to all of the vintage artwork on the wall...and the bus roll!

..but, this is photo is a wonderful example of all of those details I love - Worn wood, wicker, sisal, white cupboards, linen, slipcovers, greenery, vintage lighting, antique/vintage pieces and all within a wonderfully white canvas. All that's needed now is some artwork or prints on the walls.

Is there anyone out there that is as smitten with these things as I am?? or am I just crackers, I am sure there are more of you.

Red!

For those of you who read regularly, you know I am a devoted white lover, but I do have a soft spot for a hint of red. So, today I thought I would show you some of my red loves and what can be done with this primary lovely...

I really like this room, especially the painting of jars of lollies, Humbugs and those all red ones. The little hints of red are picked up throughout this room in the soft furnishings to great effect...and it is not overwhelming.

I really love red along side white and denim blue in a boys room. We are thinking that the boys rooms will be due for a makeover soon, and I have always loved this combination...especially with stars as a common theme.

A grain sack runner with red ticking stripe is a favourite that will never go out of style.

Vintage iron beds painted white and snowy white linen are a perfect canvas for red sheets, bear and little stool. I would love beaded walls.

So, you can see why I love a hint of red here and there. I will always love blues and greens, but every now and then the red part of my brain kicks in and takes over....never over the white part though ;)

Inspiring Childrens Rooms

Imagine if you had a playroom like this to keep you amused..you would never annoy your Mum while she was cooking Dinner. How cool is this room? I love the double desks for art and the big, bold floor cushions, also the stripe lounge (which would be forgiving too).

These two rooms are adorable. I absolutely love the espresso cover with antique white and the blue. This room wouldn't need updating for ages. Declan, our just turned four year old would "like one of those beds". He does have good taste that child.
If I had a girl I would probably have a room like this for her. This room is all about being a girl I think. I could imagine being a teen in here too trying to hide the fact that you smudged Mums new Chanel lipstick on that lovely pink cover!

And no, I am not pregnant!!
