Mood board...

Hi petals!
How are you? I am well, been busy. You know how it is, right?
We had a room move around here at our house over the weekend, I nearly broke my jaw, our bed broke and there is tonnes of bags for charity clogging my hallway.
I am planning on doing some painting once I have some major art works out of the way with to freshen our 'new' rooms and cant get white (of course), greys and wood off my mood board.

The amazing Tricia Foley is such an inspiration to me and I will be looking to her while I sort out the details.
This space in her office/shed is perfect.
Bead board walls, natural linens and mismatched pieces all based around a pale palette are divine.

Un varnished wicker, white and muddy greys all have me captivated right now.
The fresh touch of green is stunning.

Even though this image is in black and white, you can see the palette is just what I am after.
I do think this is missing some green though.
My mood board is getting packed with ideas.
Oh, and speaking of mood boards I am now part of addicted to
Pinterest. This is an amazing site where I can 'Pin' any ideas that come my way in inspiration like boards.
So much easier than cutting and sticking on my wall =0)

PS- You will notice that the annoying 'technical difficulties' message is G O N E. I was over it and unfortunately cant fix the one at the bottom of the post, so we have to put up with that til I work out what to do.

Olive Grove In Manhattan NY

For those of you who have followed me for a while will know how much I love the styling and decorating of Olive Grove Retreat.
This divine slice of Provence was right here in Australia, Heathcote Victoria to be exact. Just over an hour from Melbourne and a heartbeat from France.
Sadly, OGR is no more. Its doors where stylishly closed to the public back in 2009, but it is still owned by Hairstylist Lazarus (Wesley) Douvos.

There are so many elements from this retreat that I fell for immediately.
The chalky hues, loads of white

The bagged walls, French fittings (a claw foot bath just like mine)

Serious charm

and the magic of thinking you are worlds away with the soft scent of Lavender wafting by on a warm evening, when you are actually not far from one of the busiest cities in Australia!

The interior  is just perfect...truly.
So, the other night while going through tonnes of emails I found one from the owner of this gorgeous slice of the earth, Lazarus!
Telling a little about the closure of the retreat and the move to NY. The two places couldn't be any further away!!
I also got a sneak peak in to Lazarus' equally stunning Manhattan apartment.
here it is....

The first thing that sprung to mind here was 'Tricia Foley'...immediately!
It is stunning...and you know I LOVE Tricia =0)

There are so many hints of Olive Grove Retreat as well...with a New York edge.

Lazarus, I am glad you are still lovin the tufting!!!

...and that panelling is divine...

ahh...it's Olive Grove all over =0)
This image, although a little blurry is a constant on my mood/inspiration board and fills me with ideas every time. I thank you for that Lazarus, and for letting me peak into your new Retreat on the other side of the world.
I hope you get back to Olive Grove soon.

Wish I was.....

...here!
The New General Store which is the seasonal pop up store by the amazingly talented Tricia Foley is on again!! Tricia emailed me to let me know it was on again so I thought I would remind you all too =0)
I am a little disappointed that I cant attend so I will have to enjoy the images that Tricia always loads up to the site once it is done with.
The following images are of the Summer event which looked gorgeous.
The Christmas event will have loads of festive gifts and produce and gorgeous home wares and local produce. I do love the wreaths that Tricia seems to get each year.

...and I am loving this big market tote with the shop logo on the front.
So, if you are in the Long Island region you should visit this superb market
...and think of me =0)
Head over to The New General Store to find out when and where it is.

At Home With Country - C&R's Book Review and a winner!!!

I am so honoured to have been asked by Christina Strutt and her wonderful crew to review her 5th book, At Home With Country. I did feel very nervous doing this, a a little like I was handing in a paper at school (except everyone gets to read it not just the Teacher!). So, when the beautiful book arrive the other day and I managed to pry it from my Mum's hands, I sat with pen and paper and started to write. Then it struck me, what was I doing, this book is amazing!!
Christina was a Stylist at Vogue before starting her very successful fabric company Cabbages & Roses!!! This book doesn't need a review, it speaks for itself.
So, I just immersed myself in it, coffee and cake in hand and soaked up every beautiful country image...this is where I stopped...and thought.
I love country, and so many people say they are 'over it' and it has been done to death...yeah, the mass produced country style with ducks in hats and mice and wheat in the kitchen etc...not this country style - THIS will never die or be done to death. The real country home is full of comfortable, beautiful, practical pieces. Lived in, loved in crumpled, washable fabrics - you know the stuff....and Christina has shown this perfectly. Not only is this book a journey through gorgeous homes, but different styles of homes all with a 'real country' feel. It is a look that can fit anywhere, from an 11th century home to a loft in Manhattan, a house boat to a English cottage...and when done well, will never date.
This brand is stunning regardless!

The whole way through you are taken on a visual journey with the C&R's range of stunning fabrics and shown how versatile florals, stripes and checks can be.
I loved that there are references with each home as to the name of the fabric, and a sample section at the back to see the ranges together and how they all work together.

The homes Christina has selected are beautiful and this one called "Bridgehampton Cottage" shows the C&R's fabric so well. The white walls give the fabric center stage and it goes so well with the antiques and quirky vignettes.
This is what being at home with country should be about. Casual, yet thoughtful arrangements that will be moved frequently, nothing that is overly precious and all having a function.
I was extremely happy to see that my favourite designer Tricia Foley's Manhattan Loft and her equally stunning Long Island home made an appearance. I also loved the Langton range of fabrics she has used in both homes.

As my scanner was playing up I couldn't get an image of the Paris Rose fabric Tricia used on this sofa in her loft, but you will just have to buy the book and see for yourself as well as Christina's stunning and so homely "Brook Cottage", where the Cabbages & Roses label was started. Her amazing tent is something to be bookmarked for future reference and the first time I had ever seen her tent was also the first time I had seen the C&R's fabric.
If you are looking for an inspiring book, something to look at over and over again, then At Home With Country will not disappoint - I promise you! =0)
Thank you so much for letting me review your book Christina, I LOVE it!

Constantly Inspired By Tricia Foley

As you know by now Tricia Foley is my all time favourite Designer and inspiration. I just adore her style and Tricia's work has influenced my own work over the years. I am always stopping by her site to see what beauty she has been working on and was blown away by this Irish Country Home which was a recent project for her.

I am loving this wall of vintage maps and the little trunk with 'Dublin' on it...how fitting!

...but this room is just stunning!
You amaze me constantly Tricia. There are so many more photos of this gorgeous home so if you would like to see more please stop by Tricia's site (you probably already have by now).
And for even more inspiration you can view Tricia's 3 blogs
Enjoy them, they are equally beautiful =0)

Welcome Weekend...

After a very tiring week I plan to do some cocooning this weekend, baking, playing with the boys...family time basically.
I would however love to have a lazy Sunday brunch on this wonderful porch by Tricia Foley. For those of you that don't know, I ADORE anything Tricia touches and anything I design is always done with a hint of Tricia's style egging me on.
She is fabulous...and so are you!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend - see you Monday =0)

...and Kelly McGuill has a blog!

Lori from Frugal Farmhouse Designs blogged about the very talented Kelly McGuill the other day and that she has a blog...didn't know that.
I went over for a look and was blown away. I have admired Kelly for some time now, but was very pleased to see that she loves one of my all time favourite Designers, Tricia Foley!
Kelly's work is amazing and all that she uses is so my style =0)
I loved this shot because I have a wicker trunk beside our sofa and before Summer arrived, we had our blanket box as our coffee table on a jute rug with trim like this...and you know I use hydrangeas and have a thing for long branches!
The botanical images on the wall is something I would love to have in our living room somewhere too. The big mirror up the back of the shot reminds me of the window like mirrors my Dad makes...love it.
Kelly's use of white is so beautiful and I love throwing in industrial elements into a space like steel, nickle, signs etc and really liked what she has done with this kitchen.
Ticking is another love of mine...and I have this exact one! the blue and white fabric on the armchairs reminds me of another favourite of mine - blue and white china.
...but it is this space that makes me swoon!
White ginger jar lamp base, slip covered sofa, wooden floors, white furniture tucked in with wooden pieces and hints of greenery.
I am liking Kelly's style a lot!
Head over to Kelly's blog and check out more of her work. It is stunning.

Heart felt thanks...

I just wanted to say a warm thank you to Tricia Foley, one of my all time favourite Designers for sending me an encouraging message about the store I want to open. I really appreciated it. Tricia mentioned that she has just hosted her fall pop-up store that was a success and there will be a festive one for the holidays soon...I can't wait to see the photos!!

Is this it???

...the store I have longed for all this time?
Let me explain.
The ever inspirational and uber talented Tricia Foley who has long been one of my all time favourite designers turned this lovely barn from a dark, damp outbuilding into...
...her gorgeous studio.
Now, I loved this project and admired Tricia's use of the space. A multi tasking area that could be turned into a wonderful entertaining area (complete with projector screen for those Summer popcorn movie nights) or spare guest quarters at a whim, then back to her work space.

Recently, Tricia re-invented the barn into a seasonal store she called The New General Store. A mainly Summer and Fall extravaganza of local produce, natural home remedies and lots of style.
How does this apply to me? Well, we so happen to have a outbuilding which we use as an entertaining space in the warmer months (it needs a little work) and I have often thought how great it would be if I could use it somehow as my Interiors/Home wares store.
Some of you will know that I was meant to open my little shop last year and because of things out of my hands...it never happened. I was not happy. It hasn't stopped me wondering "How do I get this thing going"?
I have been sketching non-stop since the shop was first on the drawing board. Things like what it would look like, how it would be laid out, even to the packaging had been designed.

Simple ideas like hand written signs, like these from Tricia's store.
I have often thought it would be lovely to have local plants and products to sell and seeing we are in a tourist country town and our little shed is in a prime stopping spot, and I can work my own hours (even seasonally), no rent, baby sitters/child care etc...it just makes more sense.
Now, Tricia's store is a market of sorts and others can sell their bounty on her property. I don't have that in mind...too much red tape. I am loving the idea of Summer tables of produce and home wares based around a very simple and natural colour palette of white (of course), wood, wicker and fresh greenery...like this shot. The colours that will sit with any decor, no matter how funky or classic.
You know from my recent project post that I am a fan of the blackboard and the fact that I love calligraphy just seem to go hand in hand for shop signs don't you think?
We actually have a little wood fired bread shop here in town. It would be lovely to have them wrapped in brown paper and natural twine, sold from big chunky fisherman's baskets!

Here is the inside of Tricia's barn.
My type of interior for a shop. White painted shelves, lots of texture, hemp and burlap, vintage items, wicker, flowers, iron stone, glassware...you get the drift.
So there it is. I have just shared my longest dream with you - to have a store of my own.
Good night,

Inspiration...to get you in the mood!

As we are not far away from 'The Day', I thought a clean out of my Christmas pictures was in order, and also to give you all some inspiration for last minute decorating.

A welcoming entrance is a must, and these beautiful knitted stockings and fresh garland
are simply beautiful.
Not that we need one in Australia, then again with the weather we have been having here
of late...a roaring fire. That huge wreath is divine.

Simple recycled glass ornaments for a beautiful display..and a gift for unexpected guests.

Amanda bought some of my tags and this is what she done with them.
She used wallpaper, beautiful ribbons and my tags to
create gifts with a difference. They look great Amanda!!

Even an all white Christmas setting can be festive...and beautiful.

Then again, a traditional setting is so homely and reminds me of a childhood Christmas, full of wonder and amazement.

I hope this all gets you in the mood...Ness xx
